
The Challenge
Before Thames Water was spun off in 2006, RWE operated a Shared Services unit for the whole group. As Shared Services was split up, new business units were established each with their own culture and needing their own identity.
As with any major change programme, there needed to be clear, concise and honest communication with the management team. Those most directly affected needed to hear from senior personnel, ideally face-to-face. As the new departments were built, good communications became increasingly important. Regular events were held by senior managers to tackle issues such as the new vision and mission, as well as operational practicalities.
What we did
The Norton Group has managed and facilitated more than 30 events for npower, Thames Water and RWE Trading since 2004. Within Shared Services we have delivered leadership development training and coaching as well as internal communications consultancy and project management.
For Thames Water we facilitated a series of regional workshops with their CEO so staff could hear about plans first hand and have the opportunity to contribute to them.
At npower we have been working with the managers of their new Systems Division to reinforce a culture of open and honest communication which has contributed enormously to the successful development of their teams.
The Outcome
RWE has now completed its restructuring and successfully separated the individual units within Shared Services. The Norton Group continues to work with RWE’s internal communications teams to deliver events that constantly challenge managers to think and act differently.
